Leslie A. Steen Hired as Alexandria, VA—Wesley Housing, a leading non-profit affordable housing developer in Northern Virginia, welcomes Leslie A. Steen as Vice President of Real Estate. Steen will oversee the real estate development, asset management, and property management departments with the provision of policies and procedures, coordination and monitoring of on-going operations, and assistance in the development of short and long term objectives for each department. With over 30 years of proven expertise in nonprofit and for-profit housing—affordable, market rate, rental, ownership, and organizational development—Steen brings a lifetime of experience and passion to the position. Her particular expertise lies in combining housing development and finance with community development. Steen’s insights into the conditions that determine a healthy community stem from years of developing affordable housing in fragile and transitional markets, promoting citizen participation and grassroots self-government, and advocacy work. “We are excited to have someone with such depth and breadth of experience in housing join our team,” stated Shelley S. I am thrilled to have her as part of the team!” Prior to joining Wesley Housing, Steen most recently served as the Housing Chief for the District of Columbia for Mayor Adrian Fenty and was the founding President and CEO of Community Preservation and Development Corporation from 1989 to 2004. She has also worked in housing development and policy, including Vice President for Policy and Business Development for The Housing Partnership Network, senior finance and development positions with National Housing Partnerships, and the first President and CEO of Twin Cities Housing Development Corporation in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Currently, Steen is a member of the Urban Land Institute, Coalition for Non-profit Housing and Economic Development (CNHED) and Housing Association of Non-Profit Developers (HAND) and serves as a judge for the Urban Land Institute’s Workforce Housing Recognition Program and a trustee for the National Housing Conference.
