Position Summary:

The position of Volunteer Translator supports Wesley Housing’s educational programming for youth and adults at multiple Community Resource Centers. The Community Resource Centers are designed to provide residents with and inform residents of available resources (i.e. Adult Computer Classes, ESL Classes, Job Readiness Classes etc.). This position reports to the Community Resource Center Director.

Volunteer position requires a commitment of 2-15 hours per week, for each week that school is in session. 2011-2012 school year.

Salary: Unpaid.

Knowledge and Skills: Eligible candidates must be fluent in any of the languages listed below:

• Spanish
• Amarhic
• Somali

Duties:

• reading through original material and rewriting it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained;
• liaising with clients to discuss any unclear points;  translating during instructional courses;
• proofreading and editing final translated versions; 
• providing clients with a grammatically correct, well-expressed final version of the translated text, usually as a word-processed document
