800+ Children Received Gifts and Coats This Year!

Toys for Tots

Every child living at Wexford Manor, Whitefield Commons, Knightsbridge, Strawbridge Square, and Agape House, as well as non-resident children participating in Center programs, received two toys from Toys for Tots. Through an incredible volunteer effort, all of the toys were wrapped over the course of 5 hours in a space donated by Lincolnia UMC in Alexandria.

Gift Card Drive

This year's Gift Card Drive filled the gap left by Toys for Tots for youth, ages 11-17. We distributed a hundred $15 gift cards donated by individuals and groups including Burke UMC and numerous Northern Virginia chapters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Adopt-a-Family

188 residents in 62 households  were served through our Adopt-a-Family program (an increase of 84% over last year). Families were "adopted" by 30 groups and individuals including United Way Worldwide, The SI Organization, two teams from Lockheed Martin, Accenture, NFL Players Association, InfoComm, Old Navy, Cable&Wireless, and Chesterbrook UMC Preschool & Child Care. Space for gift sorting and wrapping was donated by St. John's UMC in Springfield.

_260 Volunteer Hours Donated _ f for the Holiday Giving Drive!

Operation Warm-Up

We distributed more than 225 winter coats, scarves, hats and gloves through the generosity of the Salvation Army, Coats for Kids, and all of the churches, schools and businesses that partnered with us on the 2011 Coat Drive. These items were delivered to the students at Plummer and Simon Elementary Schools, two DC schools that partner with us through Fannie Mae's Help the Homeless Mini-Walk program.
